Wittywood: Spain’s first all-wood office building

Barcelona’s 22nd district is home to Wittywood, Spain’s first office building made entirely from wood.

The clean-looking structure was finalised in 2022, and brings a calm forest feel to the crowded city. This project excels in environmental responsibility and employee well-being. Its smart green building strategies have earned it a LEED Platinum Certification. Wittywood’s focus on user well-being has been recognised with a Well Platinum Certification.

The team behind Wittywood

The following teams were instrumental in bringing Wittywood to life:

  • Ballarin & Grinyó Architects: Designed the building with a focus on sustainability and user comfort.
  • Lunawood: Supplied the sustainable Thermowood facade.
  • Gomar Ebanistas: Assembled and installed the building’s components.

Sustainable from the ground up

Wittywood is built with cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glued laminated timber (glulam). Wood buildings like Wittywood are more sustainable than those made from concrete or steel because wood stores carbon, requires less energy to produce, and is a renewable resource. The building’s natural look is completed with Lunawood’s Thermowood cladding, offering both style and durability while fitting well into the urban setting.

More than just looks

Wittywood isn’t just about its appearance. The wood’s natural thermal properties enhance energy efficiency, reducing the need for heating and cooling. Plus, solar panels installed on the building generate clean energy for its operations.

Well-being at the forefront

Inside, Wittywood features warm wooden interiors that connect occupants with nature. Research shows that natural surroundings can boost cognitive function and lower stress, creating a more productive and relaxing work environment.
