Building heroes

Derwent London PLC – 80 Charlotte Street | London, UK

What can real estate do to truly combat climate change? This #buildinghero is showing us how it’s done 💪

Derwent London plc‘s first all-electric, net-zero carbon building is a model of excellence in sustainability. Achieving BREEAM Excellent at the design stage & targeting LEED Gold, 80 Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia, London serves as an inspiration for all industry stakeholders 🏆

From Multiplex to Make Architects to Arup & beyond, the efforts put into this project by its heroes can’t be commended enough. Here are just a few of many eco-features at 80 Charlotte Street:

🏢 Retention of 30% of the original structures to reduce waste & carbon emissions.

🔥 Air source heat pumps on the roof providing heating & cooling, thus avoiding the need for conventional carbon-intensive gas boilers.

☀️ 80m2 of rooftop solar thermal panels heating the domestic hot water, reducing the building’s requirement for grid electricity.

💡 Optimised façade design balancing natural daylight with solar gain, high efficiency building services, an all LED system for main landlord areas & daylight sensors automatically dimming lights in response to ambient light levels.

Brilliant project!
